Meeting Minutes

May 7, 2003

    

 

 

Members Present:   Toni Schiff , Betty Villari, Terry Horwitz, Jim Pipilas, Greta Holman, Jo-Ann DiOrio

 

Meeting called to order at 11AM in 2nd floor Auditorium

 

Approval of Minutes of March 12, 2003.  Motion to approve by Betty.  Second by Greta.  6-0.

 

Old Business:  John Thomas is not available and has turned down our invitation to join the Commission.

 

New Business:  Rex McKinsey – Handicap Parking on Pier will come to next meeting.

Pat Farwell asked to be on the Commission.  Betty made motion to invite her.  Second by Jo-Ann.  6-0.

Town Wide Policy Goals – Input from Boards

 

Suggestions: Review Crosswalks and Handicap Spaces.  (Handicap sticker legally allowed unlimited parking.)

  1. Improve number of Handicap spaces.
  2. Continue to make all corners wheelchair accessible.
  3. Review, identify and improve and provide create better crosswalks and educate the public.
  4. Create C.O.P. working group to include Chief of Police, Disability Commission, and other interested community members to identify and enforce existing handicap laws, including parking, crosswalks, building accessibility.  The fines associated with these to be designated to special fund to be used by Disability Commission for continuing upgrade, accessibility and education. (M.G.L. Ch 40 §22G)

 

Jim moved to accept these.  Second by Betty.  6-0.

 

Next  Meeting:  June 4, 2003 @ 10:30PM

 

Motion to adjourn by Jim.  Second by Betty.  6-0.
