Provincetown Cultural Council Minutes

Members in attendance: Cherie Mittenthal (chair), Maryalice Johnston, Mike Wright, Marian Roth, Amy O’Hara, Pasquale Natale, Patti DeLuca, Dorothy Antczak.

Discussion re: LCC grant cycle. Applications due October 17, 2005. Total: $2,500. Announcement in Banner per Cherie, Amy will copy applications and distribute to Town Hall. All council members are charged with encouraging applicants to raise total number of local applicants. Future grant money depends on constancy of local applications. (Last year’s total grant allotment was discouraging; many applicants didn’t feel the work of completing the application was worth the award. We need to change that attitude.)

PCC lost secretary – new names to consider for position: Rena Lindstrom, Sky Power.

Possible new LCC members: Frank Vasello, Jim Balla, Jody Melander. Different council members will broach according to acquaintance.

Tasks for council:

Talk to Olga Broumas, Nancy Flasher, teachers and kids involved in the Poet–in-the-Schools component of the Poet Laureate appointment and write press release.

Consider names for 2006 Poet Laureate. Mary Oliver next logical choice? Perhaps Poet Laureate does not have to be a “big” name, but an “emerging” writer? Discussion re: schedule & role of Poet Laureate.

Consider a project to cover boarded-up properties (windows of closed businesses downtown, etc.) with murals. Involve kids? Convince shop owners to keep widows open to show artwork inside?

Check (again) to see what’s happening re: Art in Public Spaces project. Will we lose grant money waiting for the designated space to become available?
