Cape Cod
National Seashore General Management Plan
Implementation
Advisory Committee (CCNS-GMP-IAC)
MINUTES of
the Meeting on Thursday, October 25, 2001
Provincetown
Town Hall, Judge Welsh Room
Attending: John Thomas (chair), Patrick Patrick, Don Richards,
Kerry
Adams (vice-chair), KC Smith (clerk), Barb Prato (alternate)
John Thomas called the meeting to
order at 5:00pm.
Paul Tasha (as a member of a
family who has owned a dune shack for many years) was present to present his
views on the dune shacks history and use to the Committee. The shacks remaining in the control of their
traditional users have time limits based on a variety of conditions (specific
dates, life estate, etc.) after which the Seashore will own them and administer
them according to its own guidelines; many of these deadlines will occur during
the next two years. John Thomas
discussed the National Park Service concept known as “vernacular landscapes”,
which is a protected type of cultural resource, and his belief that the dune
shacks and their traditional uses should qualify for protection under this
category. Further discussion about the
dune shacks was continued to the next meeting.
It was tentatively agreed to schedule a public forum meeting devoted to
the dune shacks in March.
Minutes’ approval were continued
to the next meeting.
After discussion by the Committee,
it was agreed to plan a public forum meeting focusing on coyotes in
February. Kerry Adams will be the
primary person working on this.
The next meeting was set for Thursday,
November 29th at 5:00 pm.
Pat Patrick was excused from the next meeting.
There being no further business,
Kerry Adams moved and KC Smith seconded that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously and the
meeting adjourned at 5:55 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
KC Smith, Clerk
