Minutes of the Committee meeting on Thursday, January 26, 2006
Provincetown Town Hall, Meeting Room A
Attending: John Thomas (chair), Kerry Adams (vice chair), Barbara Prato
Excused: Pat Patrick, Paul Tasha
Meeting called to order at 5:10PM.
The minutes of the January 12 meeting were approved as written.
Sue Moynihan, Chief of Interpretative and Cultural Resources for the Cape Cod National Seashore and Mark Adams, Mapping and GIS specialist for the CCNS were present at the meeting to discuss the committees concerns about the social trails in the dunes between Herring Cove and Long Point. Different solutions to address this problem were discussed. A walking tour of the area to clarify concerns and discuss options was discussed and will be held on March 4 or March 11 weather and schedules permitting. Members of the public will also be invited to attend and add their input to the possible solutions to the dune erosion problem. A volunteer effort, possibly to be held in April, was discussed to implement the solutions to this problem.
Also discussed with CCNS staff were the concerns over tidal flow at Mill Pond. Mark Adams stated that the culverts, which allow the flow, are fine but the road is collapsing around the culvert. There are already meetings being held by those responsible for the road’s maintenance to address this problem.
A draft of the committee’s letter for the Board of Selectmen’s consideration regarding the draft Management Policies of the National Park Service was reviewed and discussed. It was voted on to submit the letter to the BOS and to get on the agenda for the next BOS meeting to bring it to their attention. Peter Sousa was also present to comment on the Boards suggested response to the draft Management Policies.
The next meeting will be held on February 23, 2006.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:40PM.
