PUBLIC MEETING

Chair Dennis Minsky called the Public Meeting to order at 5:20 P.M.

DISCUSSION:  Acquisition of property signs at Town conservation properties.

The Town conservation properties under discussion are Shank Painter Pond Sanctuary, Nicky’s Park, Whistle Path Woods and the Curtis property. According to Celine, there is currently $11,000.00 available from Land Bank funds for the purchase of signage, however $9,000.00 has been approved for Land Bank expenditures for the 2009 fiscal year.

It was first decided that both property signs and interpretive signs were needed at each site. The subsequent discussion centered on the number of signs for each property, their size, their location and their content.

SHANK PAINTER POND SANCTUARY: There will be two property signs; one at the trailhead off Route 6, measuring 36” by 24”, and one off Ship’s Way, measuring 18” by 24”. After much discussion, it was decided that there would be only one interpretive sign located on the deck, measuring 18” by 24”.

NICKY’S PARK: There will be one property sign at the trailhead, measuring 36” by 24”, and two interpretive signs; one at Jimmy’s Pond and one in the hollow just beyond the parking area, both measuring 12” by 18”. Celine read the wording that Ray Wells had requested be placed on one of the signs at the property.

WHISTLE PATH WOODS: There will be two property signs; one at each access point, both measuring 18” by 24”, and one interpretive sign, possibly explaining how the area got its name, measuring 12” by 18”.

CURTIS PROPERTY: There will be one property sign on the railroad bed side of the property, measuring 18” by 24”, and one interpretive sign, possibly to be located near the white cedar swamp, measuring 12” by 18”. The property sign will reflect the new name for this site.

The content of the interpretive signs was discussed at length. The only detail that was decided was that the Town logo should appear on the signs. The Commissioners shall endeavor to come up with sample language for those signs and it was decided that another meeting should be scheduled in order to finalize the language for the signs. Dennis will write some language and e-mail to the Commissioners and Celine.

The other sign issues to be discussed at another meeting are what material they will be made out of, their color and how many posts will be used to anchor them. The Curtis property needs to be re-named as well.

COMMISSION BOARD STATEMENTS:

None.

ADJOURNMENT: Dennis Minsky adjourned the meeting at 6:30 P.M.
