Conservation
members met at 10:00am on September 21, 2005 at the public access point for the
conservation land located near Clapps Pond to investigate the illegal use of
dirt bikes, all-terrain vehicles and illegal clearing and cutting resorting in
damage done by clippers and chainsaws to the protected lands within the
conservation area.
Pictures
were taken of several areas within the conservation land to document the
violations. Further investigation is
necessary to get a clear understanding of scope and range of the damage. The cutting and clearing of a “new” pathway
was found and the investigation reveled that it extends several yards through
the conservation lands and within 100 feet of protected wetlands. Evidence of dirt bike and four-wheeler use
was documented on the recently cleared path.
Tracks from both said motor vehicles were documented as well as the
cutting of tree limbs with clippers and saws.
Upon
completion of the walk through and investigation Dieter Groll made the
following motion:
1)
Obtain
license and plate information on vehicles witnessed at the site of violation
and pass information onto the Provincetown Police Department to obtain
identities.
2)
Issue
a violation notice and cease and desist order to Jamie McNulty and Carl Roach.
3)
This
violation notice and cease and desist order will be CC’d to Ted Myer, Police
Chief, Keith Bergman, Town Manager, Doug Taylor, Director of Community
