Friends present: Vern
Wilson, Irma Aho
Meeting convened at 3:10 P.M. by Chairperson Anita Berman.
1. Minutes of previous meeting were reviewed and unanimously
accepted as written.
2. Director's Report: Pat Benatti has offered a tree in tier
father'' memory to replace the dead tree in front.
There may be some controversy because some people feel the
present tree is not dead. Diane suggested a letter of appreciation to Dick
Snell for his 6 years of service to the COA Board. The COA building has janitorial
problems. With Brother Costa out, Michael Andrews is giving two hours to do
basic services but it's not enough to get floors done, especially the kitchen
floor. Would the Friends consider a stipend for a senior to do some inside
painting, like doors and trim? The Pied Piper Volleyball Tournament netted $850
for the Friends. The white van is being used a lot for various senior errands.
3. Friends' Report: Vern said it was a very quiet month and
he had nothing to report.
4. Old Business: Ray reported that a new phone system will
be put in the Town Hall and Grace Goveia Building and the system will include
voice mail. The bids for the tilt windows and painting the building came in too
high so the town will readvertise. Mrs. Berman suggested if the bids are too
high, then do half the building this year and the other half next year. She
also suggested the Board write letters to Mr. Marino, the high school
principal, and to the Lions Club regarding help with the inside painting of the
Grace Goveia Building. A motion was made by Ray to write the letters. Marge
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The was a discussion on the MFA
membership. It was decided to put it on hold until the next meeting. if the
membership is renewed, it was suggested it be done under the Friends of the
COA,
5. New Business: Mrs. Berman made the motion to send a
letter of appreciation to Dick Snell. Ray seconded the motion and it passed
unanimously. Regarding janitorial services, it was suggested the Board put in a
separate article for the regular town meeting for full time janitorial services
for the Grace G oveia Building.
6. Miscellaneous: Mrs. Berman is trying to work out a
schedule with the VFW for our Fall Supper fundraiser. Another possible
fundraise would be selling chair pads at town meeting.
Date of the next meeting: Thursday, September 9, 1999.
Meeting adjourned at 4:11 P.M. by Chairperson Anita Berman.
Respectfully submitted,
Patricia Benatti, Secretary
