COUNCIL ON AGING MEETING

Members present:   Pat Benatti, Ray Sparks, MargeRerry, Gladys Johnstone.,

               Diane Corbo

Members absent: Anita Berman called in her absence. Brunetta Wolfman.

Friends present: Vern Wilson, Irma Aho.

 

Meeting convened at 3:00 P.M. by Vicechairperson Marge Perry.

1. Ray made the motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting. Gladys seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

2. Director's Report: The fundraiser cushions arrived and Diane showed them to the board. They are very nice and ready for use at the spring town meeting. The board decided to charge one dollar per night for the first couple of years then evaluate the charge. The piano in the dinikag is dying and cantt be fixed. Discussion included acquiring a new one and disposing of the old one. Diane's requestto increase the hours of the social worker was unanimously approved by the Board of Selectmen. Then the State voted that the senior abatement on taxes program is to be treated as any other tax abatement program so the $10,000 will come from the assessor's office. The 10,000 needed in the COA budget for the social worker has been deleted. There is a new phone problem ‑ the lights go on but no one is using the phone line. Diane showed Robert Henneberry's new cookbook. The board discussed sending a formal letter of thanks to Robert. The Grace Goveia Building foundation was supposed to be painted and it hasn't yet. Diane would like to get the foundation painted and the shutters up.

3. Friend's Report: Vern reported the Friends bought new drapes for the leisure room and a new vacuum cleaner for the kitchen and soap for the dishwasher.

4. Old Business: No update on new phones for the COA offices. Ray is going to do a follow‑up with the DPW Director. Pat read a letter that she sent to Valerie Carrano for filling in during Diane's absence. Pat made the motion to send copies to the Town Manager and Board of Selectmen. Marge seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

5. New Business: Gladys pointed out WOMR has a special rate for adyertising for non‑profit and public service organizations.

6. Miscellaneous: None.
