COA
Board Minutes
May 15, 2007
[The regular meeting of the Board was
rescheduled to accommodate schedule problems]
The Meeting was
called to order by the Chair at 3:04 pm
Present: Gerry Brennan, Chair, Greg Howe, Paul
Mendes Absent: Florence Alexander
(unexcused), Kay Volt, Vern Wilson, Treasurer, Friends of the COA, Val Carrano, Director
Guests: Sharon Lynn, Town Manager, Michelle Couture,
Selectman
The Chair greeted our
guests, and turned the meeting over to the Town Manager. Ms. Lynn was given the
information packet that the COA
distributes to all newcomers. She gave a brief summary of her administrative
background and hopes for Provincetown. She listened intently while Board members described past and present programs, and our hopes for the future. Ms. Lynn summed up
her hopes for our future relationship by saying, “Anything I can do…” The Board
members expressed our gratitude for her presence, and presented a copy of Greetings from Provincetown, the third
cookbook produced by the Friends.
Minutes: The minutes of the April meeting were
approved.
Director’s Report: 13
people attended the Volunteer Lunch [numerous last-minute cancellations]. The
Board voted to thank our chef, Diane Corbo. Questions about COA –Police relations – the
Police need more lock-boxes.
Should we contribute? Paul Mendes suggested that he would check with the Police
Association to see if they would help with the purchase of 5 new ones. He will also check to see if the Police
Association might also reimburse $312 for the “File of Life” material to be
distributed by officers. Bake Sale: F. Alexander dropped off the “List” but was
not there to explain or share her needs. The Director needs to edit then people
will be called to contribute. Brennan has developed a larger list.
SALT: No action – Police liaison has attended a
meeting with Truro on the combined emergency info-pack.
Elderly Liaison: no report
Old Business: On her way out the door, the former Town
Moderator nominated a new Board member, without consultation with the Board or
the Director. The Nominee was unable to serve.
New Business: Brennan, Howe & Carrano had a meeting
with the DPW Director – we thought it was about the
upstairs bathroom, but it turned out to be a much wider discussion of the
building, parking and sewer hook-up. We shared the aerial photos & notes
from the meeting. Everyone was enthusiastic about more parking, paving, and the
possibility of a better-protected water line. Staking should be in place by
early fall, and there will be temporary parking problems in October. There are
questions about new walkways and plantings. Some trees will be moved, along
with the shed at the back of the building. If anyone has questions, Val has a
copy of the photo & notes.
June 15 is the date for exchanging the
art exhibit in the dining room, and the deadline for submissions for Senior
Citizen of the Year. [Check with Val if you have a nomination]. Director to put into
Newsletter.
Do we want a float for the parade?
Informal opinion seemed to be yes. If so, Brennan will be unable to
participate. We should wait until the Senior of the
Year is announced, and ask if they want a float.
Respectfully
submitted.
