COUNCIL ON THE AGING BOARD MEETING

MINUTES NOVEMBER 09, 2006

Present: Val Carrano, COA Director, Gerry Brennan, Chair, Ilene Charles, Secy., Paul Mendes, Greg Howe, Florence Alexander and Kay Volt, Alternate

Others:   Friends, Vern Wilson, Marge Perry, and Gladys Johnstone  Visitor Warren Tobias, acting police chief as of 1/1/07

Meeting called to order at 3:00 pm.

Guest Warren Tobias spoke about the house numbering project and how the funds to finance this project will be received from a grant to the PPD.  The dept. will do all the work involved.  Officers will go out on foot to ascertain who in the community needs house identification numbers. There will be notices in the newspaper, on water bills, and on the radio to alert the community of said program. Contact officers will be Peters and Repose as well as officer Benjamin.  The police dept. will also take on the responsibility of coordinating the Reach Program, making sure all calls on the elderly will be reported to the COA Director.

Director’s Report: Dave Guertin asked to meet with the Board next month.  There is an upstairs bathroom he would like to convert to an office for the new water person.  A sub committee comprised of Gerry, Greg and Paul will go through the building with David and report back to the Board.  (Gerry to get a few dates with Dave. Discussed at the December 14th meeting at 3:30. (On that same date at 3:00 a conversation with the new School superintendent, Jessica Waugh is scheduled. ---  Provincetown was asked to share sponsorhood with the Truro senior safe driving course,  AAA’s  Older and Wiser “ program. This program will be presented by John Paul on Thursday Jan.25th, 2007 at this COA from 9:30am to 10:30 am. Twelve people are needed to sign up.--- There has been no response to the Volunteer Coordinator Position and it has been dropped for now.

Friends:   The Podiatrist that serves the council donated $250 and Frank Perry donated $500.  The Friends annual appeal went out. To date they have garnered $2,500.  ($5,000 was received last year.)

SALT Council: Triad Truro and Provincetown merge has happened.  They are now working on a joint survival package for disaster and evacuation planning.  Especially directed toward tourists.  Tivac waterproof material has been proposed for the envelop. Will meet FETA and MEMA standards. Shelter provisions and police information to be included.  Funding will hopefully come from C of C’s, Tourism Board, Masons, Lions, etc.

·        The Safe return Program has its first participant.  The registration will be handled through the police dept.   The $40 fee can be waived when need is shown. 

·        Next countywide Triad meeting Dec. 7 at Sheriff’s at 1:00.

Old Business:  The Fall Harvest Fundraiser was advertised in St. Peter’s newsletter and will be advertised in other places: to date approx. 60 tickets have been sold by the Board and the Friends.

·        The Seashore Point groundbreaking was a big success replete with pomp and circumstance.

·        Master baking list was turned over to Florence for handling future bake sale volunteers and donors.

New Business:   Novenber 13th  --- special town meeting at which Marge Perry will sell cushions and has been instructed to contact the clerk’s office re obtaining them.  Thanks Marge.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 4:20   pm.  The next meeting will be held on December14th 2006 at 3:00p.m. in room #10 of the Grace Gouveia Bldg.
