PROVINCETOWN COUNCIL ON AGING –  Board Meeting April 13, 2006

Present:  Gerry Brennan, Chair, Ilene Charles, Florence Alexander, Greg Howe, Kay Volt          Absent: Val Carrano, Dir., Paul Mendes                                                             Friends: Vern Wilson, Marge Perry, Gladys Johnstone

Meeting called to order by chair at 3:00PM

Correspondence:  None     Director's Report:  None – on vacation

Friends: Vern reported that he’s paid out $1,000 in teachers’ fees to date and has received $463 back in tuition.  There was $46 taken in for cookbooks sold at Year Rounders.  $46 was made from cushion rentals at town meeting thanks to Marge.  Florence followed up with the Police to get back the Memorial Date for our Bake Sale.  Hurray!  All Board members asked to bake – to old firehouse at 9:30.

SALT:  Greg reported that at the last meeting, Barnstable Co. Jail now has an agreement with a nation-wide company that will buy cell phones.  The PPD has collected quite a few which can’t be used by SALT that we could sell.  Val will be asked to put an article in the NEWSLETTER asking for donation of cell phones in support of SALT.   A second Meeting was held between Provincetown and Truro and a merger of the two town committees should happen soon.  The next meeting is April 26th.  A call for SALT volunteers was announced and Val will be asked to ask the Volunteer Coordinator to help.

Old Business:  Chair presented 1 article at Town Meeting – tax exemption increase for eligible seniors.  Passed unanimously!  Greg pulled the article on sewer discount.  He will work with Richard Olson to find the right way and words to present it at the next Town Meeting. Year Rounders went very well but didn’t have many people show up.  Thanks Greg and Marge.  Annual Town Forum was held at the COA again with few people in attendance (approx. 10 with COA phone calls).  A lively discussion followed re whether it was advantageous to continue this event or perhaps have a stricter agenda and fewer presenters, i.e., just Finance Committee Chair.  Board tabled this discussion until January 7.  St. Patrick’s dinner was a great success.  Thanks Gladys!  Paul, Greg and Val are to meet with EMT to discuss reporting.

New Business: May 5 – Ham Dinner by Bob Hanneberry - $5/ea.  Have 20 reservations, can do 36. Please come and talk it up.  June – nothing so far.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 4:000pm.  The next meeting will be held on May 11th, 2006 at 3:00PM in room #10 of the Grace Gouveia Bldg.

Respectfully submitted

Ilene Charles, Secretary
