Provincetown Council on Aging
Board Meeting December 8th, 2005
Present: Gerry Brennan, Chair, Florence Alexander,
Greg Howe, Vern Wilson, Brunetta Wolfman, Marge Perry, Diane Corbo, Val
Carrano, Director, Ilene Charles.
Meeting called to order at 3:00PM.
Selectman Sarah Peak, on behalf
of the Board of Selectmen, presented Brunetta Wolfman with a certificate of
thanks for her six years of service to the board and to the town and wished her
well in her retirement from the board.
The COA Board also gave their thanks for Brunetta’s service including 4
years as Chair.
Minutes from November 8th accepted as read.
Directors Report:

Val
Carrano discussed her receiving an e-mail from Police chief Ted Meyers and
a phone call from Michele Couture stating that they wanted to use the Grace
Gouveia Building as a temporary shelter for mostly seniors and their pets. The
board unanimously voted against this plan as it is in direct disregard of the
Board of Health Code for the building and secondly, the Board nor the Director
were consulted beforehand. Greg Howe
will draft a letter addressing such concerns to be mailed to Meyers and
Couturre.

The
Director is working with Dianna Fabri on hosting a Medicare Part 3 program at
WOMR along with Shine, the room will support approximately 100 people to be
held on December 13 at 1pm.
·
The
Director will be on vacation from December 26th until January 7th and back to
work on the 9th 2006.
·
Governor
Romney is signing a bill for income tax credit for seniors to receive
$800 if their homes are over $600,000.
More tax-break info to follow

The
children’s library reading club came and sang for the seniors today.
·
The
Christmas party for the congregant lunch program will be on the 21st.
·
Cape Cod Commission will hold a hearing on Dec. 14th
in the Judge Welch Room to discuss plans for Seashore Point. Board members might want to be there.

Diane
Corbo, President, reported that the Harvest dinner raised $1,200 and was a huge
success. The board congratulated for
her culinary prowess and all her efforts.

Fantasia
Fair, who gives a donation every year, chose the COA as the recipient of
their $1,500 award.
·
Discussion
re charging for classes was addressed and agreed upon - $5 for out-of-towners and $3 for townies
·
V. Carrano
was asked to find out if the rental form for the town hall auditorium contains
a notice for renting cushions from the COA - so that no meeting is missed and
revenue will increase.
·
V. Wilson
reported that the annual drive has raised $4,200 thus far. It’s the best yet! Expenditure for postage
and envelopes for the appeal was $348.
·
He is
moving Friend’s money into a CD as Seaman’s is only offering 3/10 of 1%.
·
Margie
Perry will sell cookbooks at Seaman’s bank on Fri., December 16th from 1-3pm
and at Bank North on the 23rd also from 1-3pm. It was suggested that the
selling of cookbooks coordinate when the Christmas clubs disseminate their
checks.
Salt: Greg said the SALT banner is back at the
council. The police liaison has used some Salt money to buy four new lock
boxes. The merger with Truro still on
hold.

Business:

An update
on the ceramics class. G. Brennan has enlisted Gail Brown to help shuffle
through the mire of problems with the school.
They met with Eddie Boxer at the high school who finally said to go
ahead and schedule classes every Thursday and Friday in January from 1:30 -
3:30. The charge is $20 for clay and
$3/class for Townies and $5 for all others.

A call for
a board member and an alternate was again put out and a discussion re
possibilities discussed.

Brennan has an artist who’s interested in teaching a white line tile class.

A new request to find a Cooking Class Chairman went
out. This job is a lot of work

meeting to be held on January 12th, 2006
