BOARD MEETING MINUTES November 18, 2004

 

Present:  Brunetta Wolfman (Chair), Greg Howe, Gerry Brennan, Florence Alexander, Anita

Others:   Val Carrano (Dir. COA), Vern Wilson, (Friends), Gladys Johnstone, Marge Perry

Meeting called to order by Chair at 3:00p.m.

 

Minutes from the October 14, 2004 Board Meeting were approved as corrected.

           

Correspondence:

·         The Chair stated that all correspondence (8/17, 9/14, 11/1) sent to D. Guertin asking for assistance regarding the many problems in and around the Grace Guviea Building, i.e., weeds, garbage, broken things, etc. has had no response.  It was moved, seconded and unanimously approved to have the Chair attend the B of S meeting 11/22 and ask the Board to help the COA get a response to our building problems.

Director’s Report:

·         Placed in the next NEWSLETTER is an announcement for our Holiday Decorating Party on 12/10 from 1:30 – 3:30pm.  Refreshments will be served.

·         D. Corbo, Friends VP, is now looking into new furniture, drapes and possibly a new rug for our dining room.

·         There is no update on cookbooks – hopefully before Christmas.

·         The Director received a letter from Greg Howe, TRIAD thanking her and the Friends for their support of the DECIDE Program’s workshop held Nov. 1 thru 4th. 

·         COA staff is helping Friends with labels and such for their annual appeal mailing.  Restaurants will be asked to give $25.00 this year.  The Board will help stuff and mail appeal letters once the labels are done.  The Director will call Board members.

·         The Director went to Taunton to pick up 70 more flu doses.

·         On Dec. 22nd the regular Wed. luncheon will be a festive holiday lunch.

·         Dec. 6th the cooking group will take a trip to Sid Wainers in New Bedford.  The van can take 9 people for $15 each.

Friends:

·         Income from cushion rental was $50 – thanks Gerry and Kay!  M. Perry will handle the next Town Meeting rentals.

·         Expenses of $388 went for new commercial-grade stainless steel kitchen utensils.

·         G. Johnstone will write to the BANNER explaining the difference between the Elder Services Thanksgiving Fundraising Program and the Provincetown Friends Annual Appeal

SALT Council:

·         The County Deputy Sheriff has still not brought the 30 911-phones as promised, however there are 3 phone at the PPD that might be ready for next week.

·         The DECIDE Program’s Workshop came off very well.  There were 8 attendees who were all enthusiastic about the program.  Provincetown Senior housing is interested in an edited workshop to come to them next Feb.  G. Johnstone will get a date to G. Howe by Jan. 10th.

·         G. Howe drafted a letter to Chief Myers for the COA thanking him for the DECIDE Program Workshop and asking him to do another at Senior housing.

*G. Brennan will be on vacation and cannot hang the pictures in the library on December 1st.  She will try to get someone at the art class on 11/24; otherwise B. Wolfman will handle.  The NEWSLETTER will announce that all artists are to bring

their pictures to the library on Nov. 30st ONLY.  They will be hung and the artists will pick them up on Dec. 31st.

**G. Howe to sell from 10a.m to 12p.m

    G. Brennan/K. Vogt from 12p.m. to 3:30p.m

    B. Wolfman from 3:30p.m. to 7p.m

    G. Brennan and G. Johnstone will meet beforehand to wrap the cookbooks.

                        January – nothing

·         Nature walk with Jan Kelly was rained out again.  G. Brennan will send her a thank-you note for her efforts.

·         Wednesday Lunches are doing about the same but we know that G. Johnstone will put some UMPF into them.  All Board members were again invited to attend.

·         Art classes to begin November 24th and 11 people are signed up.

·         G. Brennan stood up at Town Meeting and brought the Board’s votes on the Manor Warrants.

New Business:

·         Flexroute bus system – it was moved, seconded and approved to have the Chair bring the Board’s approval of this program to the BofS at their next meeting.

·         It was moved, seconded and approved to accept the draft of the Job Description for Volunteer Coordinator as revised, and for the Chair to bring it to Doug Johnstone for his input and to let the BofS know that we had accomplished this task that was given us.

·         Medicare costs going up again next year.

·         Four Board updates:   A. Berman to leave the Board end of year after 9 ˝ years.

                                                      G. Howe and G. Brennan to get sworn in for another term.

                                                      K. Vogt to leave the Board once she becomes a resident of Florida

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:32p.m.  The next meetings will be December 9, 2004 at 3:00p.m. in room #10 of the Grace Gouveia Bldg.
