COUNCIL ON AGING

BOARD MEETING MINUTES January 8, 2004

 

Present:  Brunetta Wolfman, Anita Berman, Greg Howe Gerry Brennan, Gladys

                Johnstone, Florence Alexander.  Others: Val Carrano, Marge Perry, John

                Nelson. 

Meeting: called to order by chair at 3:05 p.m.

 

Minutes from the December 11, 2003 Board meting were approved as corrected.

 

Correspondence:

            B. Wolfman sent letter to Steve Roderick, PBG, thanking his organization for

                 Sponsoring the Senior Holiday dinner.

            No February Town meeting.  Regular Town meeting Tuesday, April 7, 2004.

            The Community Preservation Act will go on the ballot for a vote at Town meeting             if enough signatures are procured on the petition.

            A check for $200 for Beacon lights has come from the Red Cross’ Provincetown

            Canteen and given to G. Howe who will send a thank you note. A thank you will

            Also be printed in the Newsletter.

            Bridge lessons have started with 10 people in attendance.

            2 volunteers have signed to shovel snow for Seniors this year.

            Director will be on vacation 1/15 16 and 20.  again 3/13 to 3/27.

            Director is now involved with CIPOA.  This group consists of Cape social

            Services organizations.  They are focusing on helping Seniors with issues

            Such as: transportation, Housing etc.  they will present their findings in May.

            More information to follow.  All will be welcome at the meeting.

 

Friends: 

            Annual Appeal has received $376 bringing the receipts to $2,297.

Cookbooks were sold at Seaman’s Bank and the Grand Union for total

Receipts of $400.  G. Johnstone and G. Brennan were commended for their work.

Diane Corbo is collecting recipes from COA cooking classes for a new cook

Book, “Cooking At The COA”. 

 

Salt Council:  G. Howe attended a TRIAD meeting on 12/16 at the Barnstable Youth

            Ranch.  Truro could possibly act as coordinator for the REACH program.  Orleans chapter is trying to get a grant to buy a beeper for a volunteer contact person who will then contact other volunteers on the outer Cape to pick up Seniors at the Cape Cod Hospital after treatment especially during non-business hours.

            With the $250 previously given by the friends and the $200 recently collected from the Red Cross Provincetown Canteen for Beacons, G. Howe will approach the Police Department for contributions.  With these donations all Seniors will have a light for their houses to help town officials to find them in an emergency.

            Volunteers are needed to help G. Howe and the REACH program.

Old Business:  Two month planning:  March 13th Yearrounders Festival.  COA will      

Table with cookbooks and literature.

            March 26th, one week before Town meeting we will again hold our pre-Town

            Meeting Forum.  Sandwiches and beverages will be provided.

            Provincetown School’s Open House on January 21st.

            V. Carrano to call Days for odors from kitchen stove.  Discussion of strategies         

            For buying new stove.

New Business:

            B. Wolfman presented COA Board Annual Report draft.
