COUNCIL ON AGING

Board meeting minutes September 5, 2002

 

Members Present:  Brunetta Wolfman, Chair, Greg Howe, Anita Berman, Gerry Brennan, Roberta Elliott.

Members Absent:  Gladys Johnstone (excused).

Others Present:  Vernon Wilson, Treasurer of Friends of COA, Valerie Carrano, Dir. COA, Florence Alexander.

 

Meeting called to order at 3:00 p.m. by Chair.

Minutes of 8/1 02 were approved as corrected.

Correspondence:  Letter to be sent to Maria Burk of Park Service.

Letter of appreciation to be sent to Stephan Nofield.

20 letters were sent to Seniors asking them to attend TRIAD Seminar. 

Asked to present to the Board Of Selectmen COA Board approval of and co-sponsorship of “No Place For Hate”

Motion made seconded and voted unanimously to work with Town’s Hate Plan Working Group.

Motion was made, seconded and approved to send letter to the BOS, Town Manager and Ass’t Town Manager To propose a Community Relations Committee.  This Committee could be a forum for discussion of the nature and quality of relationships in Town that exist and discussing possible solutions.

All Seniors wishing to display arts and crafts are invited to display their work for sale.  The tables will be free.

Valerie will search for the “Great Book”.

Friends Report:  $655 Raised from last Bake Sale.  $375 from Cook Book sales.  $360 was paid out for Senior events.  Vernon Wilson agree that Friends would pay for large scrapbook for COA Archives.  Cost Approx. $225. 

Old Business:  Chair sent a letter to Ass’t Town Manager Mark LaTour stating Board is 100% against moving the Senior Center to the Manor. A draft letter was approved to be used to encourage more people to utilize the Center.  Greg Howe will speak with Laurel Guadazno of the Pilgrim Monument re: the sale of our cookbooks.

New Business:  Anita Berman announced that all Senior artists are invited to display their work at the Library during the month of October,  A new program possibility, “Beauty Is Ageless”.  Vernon will ask Estelle Goldberg for her participation.  This program for a possible January date.  Anita Berman requested that a Senior trip be scheduled in November to Cape Cod Outlet Mall in Sagamore.  Police Chief Ted Meyer will address us at our next meeting.

Next meeting October 3, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. in rm 36 of the graceGouveia Building.
