Council on Aging Minutes of May 2, 2002

 

The meeting was called to order at 3:00pm by Chairman

Wolfman in room #6 of the Grace Gouveia Building.

Present: B. Wolfman, Chair, Berman, Brennan Howe, Johnstone, Elliot[alt.]; Cerano;                Wilson[Treas. Of Friends of COA], Alexander, Oliver

 

Minutes: The  Minutes of the Meeting of  April 4, 2002, were approved, as corrected, on motion of

Berman, seconded by Brennan [gooselane@aol.com]

 

Director’s Report: Check for attendance at COA Breakfast, May 13[ for Earl Chaddock], MA. House Ways & Means has cut COA line item by 10% - call, write or e-mail your Representative. This will be a tight year for funding programs.

 

Thurs., June 6, Volunteer Recognition luncheon. {Ms. Corbo caters}

 

June programs:

7th ­ Sagamore Outlets; 14th ­ Sundae School; 21st ­homemade box lunch in Wellfleet; 28th ­ Hyannis ­ Main St. walk about. Dept. Transition Assistance, Tues. Second floor, room #10.

 

Friends Report: Received $232.00 for cushion rental at Town Meeting. New printing of “Souper Cookbook” has arrived. Memorial Day Bake Sale ­ Alexander has been calling.

Motion:[by Howe ] That the Corresponding Secretary write a letter to Rep. Delahunt.

 

Old Business: Town Meeting ­ seemed to go well.

 

Article on schedule of Town Meeting was well received and supported. Corresponding Sec. to write to PTA about possibility of donated sandwiches to be offered for sale at Town Meeting.  Volunteer Coordinator ­ still looking. Discussion of arrangements for Anniversary Tea on May 5. The Clock ­ not ready at this time. Discussion of fees for classes, and other fund-raising ideas.

 

New Business:

Elections ­ Wolfman nominated for 2nd term as Chairman of the Board by Johnstone, seconded

by Berman. Wolfman elected by acclamation.

 

Brennan nominated as Clerk. Elected by acclamation. Johnstone agreed to continue as Corresponding Sec. Voting at the Manor ­ Howe noted that a Manor employee said that

Manor residents didn’t seem to vote. The Board agreed that Manor residents should have all necessary assistance to be able to vote. Howe is to talk to the Town Clerk  and the Manor Dir. about voting assistance for Manor residents.

 

Correspondence: The Chair noted reception of a letter from Sabina Sternberg, spokesperson for the

“Silver-haired Legislature ­ they seek to promote active groups in every part of the state. Ms.

Sternberg wants to come to speak to us.

 

Next Meeting: June, 27, 2002, at 3:00 pm in room #6 of

the Grace Gouveia Building.
