PROVINCETOWN BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
Meeting Minutes 6/27/01
The meeting was called to order at 12:34p.m. James
presented the agenda.
Present: LouAnn, James, Robin, Gerry
Old Business:
ú Minutes were approved as read from the 5/30/01 Committee
Meeting. James
will get town clerk's e-mail address for her to forward
minutes. Robin will
get Gerry the minute requirement sheet for her to follow in
the future.
ú James did not as yet purchase the gift tree. It was
decided to purchase
this tree on the first order placed with Sylvan's Nursery
for the Town
Green/bas-relief project.
ú The revised Paysage landscape plans were reviewed and
approved for the
improvement of the Town Green/bas-relief.
James announced that the original timeline couldn't be met
for this proposed
Project to be brought before the Board of Selectmen (B of S)
and the Town as
more work must be completed first. It was agreed that:
ú James will try to get us on the Selectman meeting agenda
for July 23rd at
7:00p.m.
ú The Committee will call a work session on Wed., July 11th
at 12:30p.m. at
James' house to work on the presentation package to the B of
S. (Later found
out that this work session must be posted and held on public
property - Town
Hall.) James will contact Martha of Paysage to ask her
for "guesstimates"
for the different phases of the landscaping plan so that we
can include these
costs in our presentation.
ú Robin volunteered to find out from the Town Clerk what
exactly must be
included in the presentation package to the B of S.
ú James and Robin will speak with Sandy of the DPW for a
number of reasons:
1) to find out who to speak with at the Monument to get
their approval on
"infringing" on some of their property when the
new landscaping plan is
implemented. Robin will take the landscaping plan to
them and also ask for
their cooperation for the first phase of the landscaping
improvement plan -
the cleaning up and removal of volunteers or unplanted
forest growth behind
the bas-relief, and to trim back those trees so the new
evergreens planted
behind the bas-relieve will have sunshine. 2) to see
if we can receive the
same 25% discount from Bayberrry that the Town
receives.
ú After the Selectman meeting, any plan revisions will be
done by Martha of
Paysage before the Public Meeting.
ú James will handle announcing the Public Meeting in the
BANNER for 2 weeks
prior to the Meeting. He will shoot for Tues., August
28, 29, or 30th. He
will also check if Martha is available to attend.
ú A motion was made and seconded to commit the balance of the $5,000
Visitors' Bureau grant ($3,000) to Sylvan's Nursery on
account for the
Committee to draw on to purchase trees and shrubs to
implement the first
phase of the Town Green/bas relief project.
ú Watering of plantings update: Jeff of DPW said they
were watering. James
and Robin will also ask Sandy of the DPW 3) about getting a
"watering person"
as we had last year. They will present the list of
islands, trees, and
plants that need watering and weeding. James received
a complaint about the
geraniums not being watered nor "deadheaded"
properly but did notice a DPW
worker at one of the islands. Last year Robin
volunteered hundreds of hours
and dollars in planting and fertilizing town property.
She cannot continue.
Gerry could not get a "watering person."
New Business:
ú The Visitors' Bureau needs an accountability report from
the Committee on
how it spent the $5,000 grant. Gerry and James to work
on it.
ú James announced that he was made aware that the Committee
had received a
$2,000 grant from the Visitors' Bureau for bike racks.
It was motioned and
seconded to buy as many racks as possible by Friday, June
30, or lose the
money. James will purchase. Possible places to
put them - out by the circle
by the breakwater. (LouAnn will check to see who owns
that property.)
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned
at 1:40p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Gerry Brennan
Secretary
