Beautification Committee Minutes
April 24, 2006
The Provincetown Beautification Committee held a regular meeting on April 24, 2006. Members present were: James Mack, Lou Ann Bowen, Mary Ann Powers, and Cecilia Hall. Guests present were David Guertin and Barbara Rushmore.
The meeting was called to order at 12:15 pm.
Barbara Rushmore presented her ideas, which included:
§ A new fence to separate Waterfront Park from the Municipal Parking Lot, made of vertical posts and nautical rope. It would be 340’ in length, covering the entire length of the Waterfront Park. David Guertin agreed that the DPW would install the fence.
§ Twelve new trees to be planted with the money from “Trees for Town” collections. The Beautification Committee agreed with the placement of said trees, including two on town property, behind the Fire Station.
§ Placing existing Beautification Committee-purchased benches along Winslow Street, across from the Youth Hostel, and the Beautification Committee purchasing two trees to place there, which is on land owned by the Catholic Church, which is adjacent to the new site for the Seashore Point development.
§ To plant a tree in front of Outer Cape Health Services.
The committee voted unanimously to approve these recommendations.
James reported we have $7700.00 for our FY ’07 budget.
It was agreed that the one oversized seagrass be transplanted from the Bas-relief to Jerome Smith Road, and the Committee would order a replacement of the same variety as the others to be planted at the Bas-relief.
There was discussion about the need for everyone to be more responsible about taking care of plants.
James made a motion to purchase six 9’ Leyland Cypress trees to be planted between the Skateboard Park and Jerome Smith Road. The motion passed unanimously.
Once again, Jennifer and her crew will plant the geraniums and scaevola purchased by the committee at Lopes Square and in front of the Post Office the week before Memorial Day. Cecilia offered to assist once again in watering and dead heading the plants during the summer.
Dave Guertin asked any member of the committee to call the DPW if they could help in any way
The plaque has been installed in Lopes Square in front of the large anchor, explaining its history.
Minutes of the 11/14/05 meeting were approved as read.
