Meeting of the Animal Welfare Committee, October 17, 2007 at Town Hall.

In Attendance: Candace Nagle, Steve Milkewicz, E. Holley, Carol MacDonald, and Gabby Hanna.

Meeting was called to order at 3:30 PM on October 17, 2007

Minutes of October 3 were approved 4-0 with spelling correction of Milkewicz.

Discussion and suggestion re: Mission statement and goals. Nagle will revise for further discussion.

Report from Dog Park Association: Rev. Amy Crocker from Chatham contacted and offered assistance.

Report from CASAS: Encourage microchipping and spay/neuter. Many reports of lost cats with some success of return using Animal Control with microchip scanner. Perhaps microchip clinic sponsored by AWC, Dog Park Association and CASAS could be planned? Herring Cove charges $40.00 plus office visit of $39.00 and it costs about $20 to register with the company.

Holley moved to write Sarah Peake asking her to support the Greyhound Protection Act. Milkewicz seconded. Passed 5-0. Nagle will write a letter to Peake

Milkewicz will contact Celine Gandolfo re: Alternate Position on AWC and do further research on poop bag stations. He is awaiting DPW response. Signage on beach re: picking up discussed. .

Emergency shelter at the Recreation Building discussed. Grant has been submitted by the town for a generator. MacDonald reported many crates and carriers available at CASAS and would like to store them somewhere else (like the Rec Center).

Discussion re: co-coordinating a letter to The Banner with Animal Control urging dog (and cat) owners to respect the leash laws. MacDonald, who works closely with Ruthann, agrees to work on something with her.  Also, there have been no more orange stickers placed on cars parked on Rt. 6. State Police, town police, Town Manager, Animal Control knew nothing???

Next meeting October 31 at 3:30

Respectfully submitted,

Carol MacDonald, Apparently the Clerk
