BOARD OF ASSESSORS MEETING
Town Hall, June 22, 2000

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was
called to order at 9:00 AM by
Chairperson, Alberta Romano.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Romano, Mrs.
Lina Berry, Mr. Rick Blanchette, Ms. Leslie Parsons
MEMBERS ABSENT: Ms. Pam Parmakian, Mr. Jack Kosko
OTHERS PRESENT: Staff: Mr. Dana Faris, Principal Assessor
MINUTES:
Ms. Berry moved, seconded by Mr. Blanchette, to approve
the minutes of the May 11, 2000 meeting as written. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
PUBLIC STATEMENTS:
There were no public statements.
CORRESPONDENCE: Mr. Faris
reported on the following recent correspondence sent or received by the
Assessors’ Office:
1. A letter from Mr.
Faris certifying ownership of 12 Winslow St.
2. A memo from Keith
Bergman, Town Manager, regarding the Special Town Meeting called for June 26,
2000.
3. A copy of the 1999
Annual Drinking Water Quality Report for the Provincetown Water Department.
4. A letter from the
Department of Revenue stating that the Bureau of Local Assessments has
completed the process of determining the proposed 2000 Equalized Valuations.
5. A letter from the
Department of Revenue notifying of preliminary certification.
6. A letter from the Department
of Revenue notifying of final certification.
7. A letter from Mr.
Faris regarding valuation of a parcel of land located at 17 Nelson Ave.
8. A copy of an
editorial which appeared in the New York Time regarding part-time property
owners and their representation in town government.
9. A letter from the
Department of Revenue regarding final notice of state-owned land valuation.
10. A memo from Keith
Bergman, Town Manager, regarding bottled water coolers in town-owned
properties.
11. A copy of the Town
Meeting Times, a brochure highlighting the June 26, 2000 Special Town Meeting.
12. A copy of a Cape
Cod Commission report regarding the Provincetown, Seashore Bike Trail Safety
Study.
OLD BUSINESS:
Appellate Tax Board Cases Update: There were no Appellate Tax Board cases to
update for this period.
Chapter 58, Section 8 Abatements: There were no abatement applications to
update for this period.
Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Abatements: Mr. Faris reported on the following
applications for abatement and recommended that they be granted:

24 partial
abatements resulting from trades or
sales of vehicles.
·
11 full
abatements resulting from bills issued in error and recommits to other towns.
Mr. Blanchette moved, seconded by Mrs.
Berry, to accept the staff’s recommendations.
The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
Boat Excise Tax Abatements: Mr. Faris reported
on the following applications for abatement and recommended that they be
granted:
·
3 partial abatements due to sales
·
7 full abatements due to bills issued in error.
Mrs. Berry moved,
seconded by Ms. Parsons, to accept the staff’s recommendations. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
OTHER/MISCELLANEOUS:
Assessing Team and Office News: There was no assessing team or office news
that was not fully covered elsewhere in the minutes.
Future Meeting Dates: There will be a meeting of the Board of
Assessors on July 27, 2000 at 9:00 AM.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no
further business to come before the Board, Mr. Blanchette moved that the
meeting be adjourned at 9:33 AM and the meeting was adjourned.
