BOARD OF ASSESSORS MEETING

Town Hall, Thursday, July 17, 2008

Judge Welsh Room

 

CALL TO ORDER:  Ms. Parsons called the meeting to order at 8:34 a.m.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:                   Ms. Leslie Parsons (Chair)

PREVIOUS MINUTES:

Ms. Deluca made a motion to accept the BOA Minutes of July 9, 2008,  Mr. Gavin seconded the motion, and the motion carried by a 3-0 vote.

 

 

PUBLIC STATEMENTS: 

None at this time.

Mr. Len Bowen requested to address the board. He was given the date/time for meeting, and did not appear. We will contact him to see if he would like to address board at next meeting.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

REAL ESTATE PROPERTY ABATEMENTS

The Board reviewed the first list of FY 2008 Real Property abatement applications. Fourteen applications were reviewed with the following recommendations:

 

1.       2 Willow Dr – Granted to Value of $746,500. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.

  1. 529 Commercial St – Granted to Value of $1,881,400. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  2. 6 Whorfs Ct – Granted to Value of $704,600. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  3. 10 Thistlemore Rd – Granted to Value of $935,600. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  4. 91 Bradford St – Granted to Value of $598,800. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  5. 283 Bradford – Granted to Value of $471,400. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  6. 409-A Commercial – Granted to Value of $1,547,200. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  7. 15 Race Rd – Granted to Value of $638,000. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  8. 263 Bradford St – Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  9. 250 Bradford St – Granted to Value of $743,300. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  10. 9 Bayview Ave – Granted to Value of $301,700. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  11. 166-U2 – Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  12. 1-U1A Meadow Rd – Granted to Value of $62,600. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.
  13. 9 Hobson Ave – Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 3-0.

 

PERSONAL PROPERTY ABATEMENTS

The Board reviewed the list of FY 2008 Personal Property abatement applications.  One completed application was reviewed with the following recommendations with the motion carried by a vote of 3-0:

 

Cigars & Spirits of Main St Inc             303 Main St, Falmouth Full Abatement

 

 

EXEMPTIONS/ABATMENTS:

 

Exemptions

The Board was presented with a list of Two FY 2008 exemptions to date with the following recommendations:

 

Clause 41C - Elderly PersonsOne application was considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements. The motion carried 3-0.

 

Community Preservation Act  One application was considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements. The motion carried 3-0.

 

 

 

MISCELLANEOUS:

1)      BOA members signed the Barnstable County Services Invoices.

2)      Cheryl MacKenzie will provide board members with a count of outstanding exemption applications that were mailed.

 

 

 

GENERAL UPDATE FROM PAUL GAVIN, PRINCIPAL ASSESSOR

 

1)      Board of Assessors has two open positions at this time, one full time, and one alternative. Only one application has been received, with no action at this time.

 

 

NEXT BOA MEETING:

Next two meetings are scheduled as follows:

Thursday, July 24, 2008 in the Judge Welsh Room of Town Hall at 8:30 a.m.

Thursday, July 31, 2008 in the Judge Welsh Room of Town Hall at 8:30 a.m.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

There, being no further business to come before the Board at the time, Mr. Gavin motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Ms. DeLuca. The meeting was adjourned at 9:38 a.m.
