BOARD OF ASSESSORS MEETING

CALL TO ORDER:  Ms. Parsons called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m.

PREVIOUS MINUTES:

Ms. Deluca made a motion to accept the BOA Minutes of March 18, 2008,  Mr. Gavin seconded the motion, and the motion carried by a 3-0 vote.

 

 

PUBLIC STATEMENTS: 

Ms. Pam Parmakian thanked the Board for all their hard work and efforts serving the town.

REAL ESTATE PROPERTY ABATEMENTS

None at this time

 

PERSONAL PROPERTY ABATEMENTS

The Board reviewed the list of FY 2008 Personal Property abatement applications.  Five completed applications were reviewed with the following recommendations with the motion carried by a vote of 3-0:

EXEMPTIONS/ABATMENTS:

 

Exemptions

The Board was presented with a list of One-Hundred Thirty-Seven FY 2008 exemptions to date with the following recommendations:

 

Clause 17D-Surviving Spouse/Elderly - Seven applications were considered for this period.  Six applicants meet the current requirements. The motion carried 3-0.

One applicant did not meet the current requirements, and application was denied. The motion carried 3-0.

 

Clause 41C - Elderly PersonsThirty-One applications were considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements. The motion carried 3-0.

 

Clause 37A - BlindThree applications were considered for this period. All applicants meet the current requirements. The motion carried 3-0.

 

Clause 22 - VeteransSeventeen applications were considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements. The motion carried 3-0.

 

Community Preservation Act  Fifty-three applications were considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements. The motion carried 3-0.

 

Senior 5K – Senior Volunteer Work Credit  Twenty-Six applications were considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements. The motion carried 3-0.

 

 

MISCELLANEOUS:

1)      Proforma Recap – need to send a letter from the BOA to motion for optional preliminary bills to the Department of Revunue by August 15, 2008.

2)      BOA members signed all FY08 Personal Property and Real Estate tax commitments and warrant letters.

 

 

 

GENERAL UPDATE FROM PAUL GAVIN, PRINCIPAL ASSESSOR

 

1)      Board of Assessors has two open positions at this time, one full time, and one alternative. Only one application has been received, with no action at this time.

 

 

NEXT BOA MEETING:

Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 17, 2008 in the Judge Welsh Room of Town Hall at 8:30 a.m..

 

 

ADJOURNMENT:

There being no further business to come before the Board at the time, Ms. DeLuca motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Mr. Gavin. The meeting was adjourned at 7:14 p.m.
