BOARD OF ASSESSORS MEETING

Town Hall, Thursday, August 31, 2006

CALL TO ORDER:  Ms. Leslie Parsons called the meeting to order at 8:20 a.m.

PREVIOUS MINUTES:

Ms. Parmakian made a motion to accept the BOA Minutes of August 23, 2006. Ms. DeLuca seconded the motion, and the motion carried by a 4-0 vote.

 

PUBLIC STATEMENTS: 

There were no members of the public in attendance.

 

NEW BUSINESS: 

There was no new business.

 

 

REAL ESTATE PROPERTY ABATEMENTS (18)

The Board reviewed the second list of FY 2006 Real Property abatement applications. Eighteen applications were reviewed with the following recommendations:

 

1.       73 Commercial St – Granted to Value of $2,151,500. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.

 

  1. 77 Bradford St – Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  2. 3 Aunt Sukeys  Wy - Granted to Value of $720,800. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  3. 638 Commercial St - Granted to Value of $679,900. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  4. 5 Pilgrim Hgts Rd - Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  5. 54 Point St - Granted to Value of $1,489,800. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  6. 945-U10B Commercial St - Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  7. 36-U1 Conwell St - Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  8. 38-UD Creek Rd - Granted to Value of $348,200. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  9. 24-UN Capt Berties Wy - Granted to Value of $856,800. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  10. 852-U2 Commercial St - Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.
  11. 42-U2 Off Cemetery Rd - Abatement Denied. The motion carried by a vote of 4-0.

EXEMPTIONS/ABATMENTS:

 

Exemptions

The Board was presented with a list of Fifty-four FY 2006 exemptions to date with the following recommendations:

 

Clause 17D-Surviving Spouse/Elderly  Seven applications were considered for this period.  The applicant meets the current requirements.  Ms. DeLuca moved, and Ms. Parsons seconded to grant the exemption.  The motion carried 4-0.

 

Clause 41C - Elderly PersonsThirty-one applications were considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements.  Ms. Parsons moved, and Ms. DeLuca seconded to grant the exemptions.  The motion carried 4-0.

 

Clause 37A - BlindTwo applications were considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements.  Ms. DeLuca moved, and Ms. Parsons seconded to grant the exemptions.  The motion carried 4-0.

 

Clause 22 - VeteransFourteen applications were considered for this period.  All applicants meet the current requirements.  Ms. DeLuca moved, and Ms. Parsons seconded to grant the exemptions.  The motion carried 4-0.

 

 

MISCELLANEOUS:

BOA Contact List

The Board was presented with a copy of the BOA Contact List and were asked to update any email addresses, phone numbers, and the best way to be contacted. All updates were provided to Ms. MacKenzie. Corrections will be made and list will be redistributed.

 

Appreciation Letter for previous BOA Chairperson – Pam Parmakian

The BOA made a decision to send a Thank You note of appreciation to Pam Parmakian for her services as the Chairperson to the Board of Assessors.

 

General Update from Principal Assessor

none

 

NEXT BOA MEETING:

The next meeting of the Board of Assessors will be scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 8:15 A.M. and will be held for two hours.

 

 

ADJOURNMENT:

There being no further business to come before the Board at the time, Ms.Parsons motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Ms. DeLuca.  The meeting was adjourned at 9:47 a.m.
