• Art Commission Chair, Julie Heller; and member, Rosemary Hillard; were present an early morning ceremony to present the paintings to Marcia Mayo, curator for the State Department's Arts in Embassies Program.

Il. Fine Arts Work Center

• The Art Commission received a letter from Hunter O'Hanian, Director of FAWC, requesting the loan of some of the town paintings for an exhibition in their Hudson D. Walker Gallery planned for a two-to-three week period in July. A copy of the letter was given to the Board of Selectmen to inform them of the request.

• JH suggested that we offer the FAWC our Kasselau "Portrait of Frank H. Days" (since FAWC occupies what was once was Day's Lumber property) and that this work should be made a priority for restoration.

III. Centennial

• JH suggested contacting the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Board to ask them to include information on the Town Art Collection in their materials. SF will discuss with Town Clerk to see if we can scan a few slides in for inclusion on the Town Web Site and set up links to the Library and COC sites, etc.

• RH suggested that all Board members "brainstorm" and research opportunities to get PR for Town art collection.

IV. Restoration Progress

• JH reported that cleaning & restoration work on the Moffett Mural is well underway.

Plexiglas will be necessary to protect the murals from further damage due to their

vulnerable location above the lockers in the High School.

• RH made a motion that we restore the Kasselau. painting (Portrait of Frank H. Days) for

loan to the FAWC, and the LEngle circus painting, for loan to PAAM for a show they are

planning sometime in July (both works are currently hung at the High School). Second by

SF. JH will obtain quote from Kristina. Bird and proceed to oversee restoration of these

two paintings.

IV. COA

0 No report

V. Photos-Blanche Lazzell prin

JH has obtained quality B&W photos of the Blanche Lazzell print (for the cover of brochure being prepared by NA). Regarding Jim Zimmerman~s letter to the Art Commission voicing concern over the condition of the print, JH & RH thanked Jim for his concern and assured him that we have already voted to allocate funds for the restoration of the print. JH has resources that are skilled in this specific restoration work. She recommends Andrea Pitsch in New York and has dealt with her in the past on similar projects. JH feels Andrea is skilled and conservative in her approach. RH made a motion that we proceed with restoration immediately. JH agrees to take care of shipping, insuring and packing the work, with cost of materials and postage to be reimbursed by the Art Commission). Second by SF. Unanimous approval.

OLD BUSINESS

Chaim Gross Sculpture Cleanup

SF reported that she has uncovered information on the proposed Chaim Gross restoration and will pursue at her earliest convenience. JH will provide SF with names of restorers. (At last meeting JH suggested that when this project is undertaken we should have other bronzes (bas relief, doughboy statue and brass plaque) inspected and make recommendation for cleaning and/or restoration.)
