PROVINCETOWN ART COMMISSION‑
Meeting November 28.'01
CONVENED‑ 2 pm
MEMBERS PRESENT‑ Peggy Prichett, Diane Shurnway,
Neva Hansen, Georgia Coxe, Connie Black
MINUTES‑ Peggy moved to approve the
minutes of November 8. Neva Hansen seconded. Vote was unanimous.
PLANNING NOTES‑ Stefan Nofield, town clerk, met
with the commission and presented a paper of planning notes for the art
collection for the commission to review. He ran through possible plans to
address our problems:
a. He suggested using a space in the basement
for temporary storage of art collection currently at the Heritage Museum which
would also accommodate some future space requirements and would be climate
controlled as well as secure. We decided that $2,000.00 should be in the budget
for moving and building what is required.
b. It was suggested that we would need about
$8,000.00 for hiring someone to put together a data base for the collection.
c. Stefan suggested that we contract for
curatorial services as well as someone to took over collection and determine
what needs to be done as far as restoration.
d. At this point the proposed budget totals
$17,050 but Stefan is going to find out how much unspent money and how much
fund money we have.
TREASURER‑ Peggy Prichett volunteered to
take the position of treasurer. She will try to get information from the
finance department.
ACQUIRING ART WORK‑ Neva reported
on her meeting with the Board of Selectmen about acquiring the Sal Del Deo
painting for the town. The board stated that the town could not buy art work,
that it would have to be bought by private parties and donated to the town.
Also the issue shouldn't be brought up before town meeting because of the
embarrassment it might cause the artist.
Meeting adjourned: 4 pm
