Art Commission Meeting-May 9, 01

Meeting convened at 3:30 pm

 

Members present: Neva Hansen, Peggy Prichett, Constance Black, excused: Peter Garza, Diane Shumway

 

Minutes of March 12:  reviewed. Peggy moved to accept.  Neva Hansen seconded motion.  Vote was unanimous to accept

 

Restoration  Neva reported that restoration of Ross Moffett painting in caucus room has been restored and rehung.  The cost was more than expected and totaled $970.00.

 

Five Year Plan  We have been asked to come up with plans for the next six year period.  Following is a list of suggestions by the commission:

          Finish restoring the bronzes

          Restoration and rematting and framing of work as needed

          Getting a curator

          Finding good storage & exhibition space

          Encourage printing town art work on annual report

          Proceed with efforts to promote awareness of importance of collection to the town

          Acquiring more donations of work, especially later work as space becomes available

          Forming a Friends of the Art Collection as there is a need arising for fundraising.

          Raise the insurance after new appraisals are received

          Improving the lighting of pieces on display in public buildings

 

Poster Project We reviewed the progress of the posters and who would go where to find buyers.  We also need to come up with other businesses or art institutions where we might send our promotional letter along with color samples.
