CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

The chair has had ongoing discussions with the Town Manager about the storage area for the art collection.  The new storage area will be on the second floor of the old library.  Ms. Lynn will talk to the Provincetown Art Association about storing some of the largest paintings there during the renovations.  The Chair was obtaining bids for moving the art collection..  The moving costs will be paid out of the Art Commission's budget.  Napi Van Dereck said he has a truck which he would lend for the moving if needed.  The move should be done in early November, but there is some leeway regarding the exact dates.  The Chair said that he does not know exactly when the new area will be ready.  That work must be completed before the paintings can be moved.  Some paintings are out on loan, which cuts down on the number of paintings which must be moved.  The members thought that they should get more information about the moving costs.  There will be another meeting before the move takes place.

The Art Commission is still interested in putting out a booklet or catalog of the collection, but that will be postponed for the moment.  There are photos of all the artworks, but some may need to be re-photographed after conservation work had been performed.

There was no treasurer's report available for distribution.

[Jim Bakker left at 3:45.]

The discussion returned to moving the art collection.  The members felt that they should clarify the moving bids, especially the number of people included in the price and vehicles to be used.  The information will be given to the Town Manager, but she has asked the Art Commission to make the decision.  Although professionals will be doing the moving, some members thought that it would be good if some Art Commission members were present to oversee the move.

The Cape Museum of Art in Dennis has expressed interest in borrowing a quantity of work for an extended period of time starting in 2009.  The Cahoon Museum in Cotuit may also want to borrow some works.

With the closure of Town Hall, the Commission meetings will be held at a location to be determined.

The Moffett Mural will have to be protected, since it probably can't be removed.  If it can be removed, it would be hard to store because of its shape.  Napi Van Dereck will talk to the architect and the contractor about the mural.  The commission continued to discuss the mural.  Erna Partoll thanked Mr. Borkowski for all the work he has done on this project.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 4:17 p.m.

Moved by: Napi Van Dereck Seconded by:  Stephen Borkowski  Yea: 4 Nay: 0 Abstain: 0

The next meeting will be in October.
