The Chair noted
that the fiscal year had closed on June 30th and he and the Treasurer had submitted encumbrances for
artwork still undergoing conservation and their subsequent reframing.
It was noted
that a representative from Anthony Moore Painting conservation would be in
Provincetown later that afternoon and the Chair suggested that we send back
with her a painting to undergo assessment and conservation.
A motion was
made to send the “Lumber Wharf” by Pauline Palmer for conservation

The issue of
re-framing the four large paintings by Oliver Chaffee for eventual display at
the library was brought forth. The
discussion centered on the need for a particularly stable frame, and the
comparison of quotes from several framers.
A motion was
made to ask Rob Dutoit to frame the pieces, assuming the work could be done
with the time and budgetary restrictions requested by the Commission.

The Chair
discussed the pending interviews to be conducted for the postion of Part-Time,
Temporary Provincetown Art Commission Collection Manager. All members of the Commission were invited
to participate as well as the Town Manager and the Director of MIS (Management
Information Systems). All five
applicants would be interviewed, four on July 14, 2005 and one on Monday July
18, 2005 due to scheduling conflicts.
At approximately
3:30 PM the representative from Anthony Moore Painting Conservation arrived and
the Commission repaired to the vault area.
The Ambrose Webster “Summer Garden” was examined as was the previously
stated Pauline Palmer. The conservator
agreed with our assessment that the Palmer was an appropriate candidate and
after executing a receipt it was removed from the building by her.
The Commission
returned to the meeting area. Jim
Bakker noted that the Cape Cod Five may wish to use an image of the Halsall
painting in an advertisement and it was agreed that there was no objection to
this and Jim would be the contact person for this.
A brief
discussion about whether to charge lending institutions for incidental expenses
was initiated with no resolutions made.
The next meeting
will be on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 3:00 PM.
A motion was
made to adjourn the meeting at 4:40 PM.
