A message to the citizens of Provincetown
The New England Deaconess Association continues to be
excited about the development of the Seashore Point Continuing Care
Retirement Community. This project will provide beautiful apartments
for older adults, who will be able to access caring assistance as
their needs increase. I am writing to express our appreciation to
the entire community for their support in moving this vision to
reality. The people who are visiting our sales office in the old
library, looking to secure an apartment in Seashore Point, are so
happy that they will have the opportunity to be a part of this residence.
It allows them to stay close to home, to family, and to the community
they love, while living in an environment which surrounds them with
beauty and high quality service.
A central reason for Seashore Point's future existence
is because of the commitment of the people of Provincetown to providing
for its older adults in a way that honors and respects their contribution
to our society. The focus of this project began because of the desire
to ensure that skilled nursing care would continue in Provincetown.
This was the focus of the town's original Request for Proposal (RFP),
along with the hope that a continuing care retirement community
would offer older adults the breadth and depth of care they deserve
in a modern, state-of-the-art facility. We responded with enthusiasm
to this RFP and are confident that this will make a difference in
the life of the people of Provincetown for decades to come.
In addition to the independent living apartments where
assistance will be available when needed, Seashore Point will also
maintain the tradition of Cape End Manor with a new skilled nursing
center, and have outpatient therapy to serve the broader community.
As a part of the independent living community we will have nine
deed restricted affordable apartments, as well as other levels of
affordability as a part of New England Deaconess Association's mission.
We are thankful for the support of the town through Community Preservation
Act funds to support the deed restricted affordable apartments.
Although $1.9 million was originally committed to this project through
CPA funds, we have now decided that we will only use $900,000 of
these funds, thus freeing up $1 million that can be used by the
town to support other Community Preservation Act projects.
We welcome everyone to visit our sales office at 330
Commercial Street, on the corner of Commercial and Freeman, in the
old library building. We encourage people who are interested in
the independent living apartments to sign up early to reserve their
spot, because we expect to begin construction in the spring or summer
of next year.
Again, thanks to all of Provincetown and the outer cape
for their continued support of the Seashore Point project. The New
England Deaconess Association looks forward to being an active participant
in the life of this community.
Sincerely,
Rev. Herb Taylor
President and Chief Executive Officer
