PROCLAMATION

Be it hereby proclaimed that

      WHEREAS, for over half a century, the Town of Provincetown provided skilled nursing care services to the elderly population of the entire Outer Cape through its ownership and operation of the Cape End Manor Nursing Home, which became a cherished local institution and part of the fabric of our community, served by a caring and capable workforce and a dedicated board of directors; and

      WHEREAS, Provincetown dared to dream of a “Cape End Manor Care Campus,” by which a world class mission-driven health care entity could bring a successful financial model to not only continue nursing home services, but also to expand services to include assisted living and independent living options not available in our community; and

      WHEREAS, our dreams of a care campus began to come true when Bishop George Coleman of the Fall River Diocese agreed to a land exchange which allowed the Town to assemble a site large enough for the project; and

      WHEREAS, our dreams became a reality when the New England Deaconess Association entered the picture with its proposal for a new $20-million facility known as Seashore Point, which would provide 41 skilled care beds, over 80 “abundant life” housing units, and 100 year-round jobs in a community with high seasonal unemployment; and

      WHEREAS, the voters of Provincetown have overwhelmingly supported the transfer of its beloved Cape End Manor to the capable hands of the New England Deaconess Association, as a proud investment in the future of Provincetown as a year-round community;

      NOW, THEREFORE, in recognition of the groundbreaking of the New England Deaconess Association’s new facility, the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Provincetown does hereby proclaim

Friday, October 27, 2006

New England Deaconess Association

Seashore Point Day
