| Public Forum: Cape End Manor Care Campus |
|
The Town of Provincetown and the Cape End Manor will host a public forum on Monday, March 18, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Auditorium, Provincetown Town Hall, 260 Commercial Street, Provincetown, Massachusetts on the Board of Selectmen and the Cape End Manor Board of Directors proposal for a new Cape End Manor Care Center to be constructed at Site Y, so called, a five acre site along Route 6 near Howland Street. Town staff as well as Roush and Associates (the selected health care entity) will be available to hear comments, concerns and answer your questions. This proposal involves the transfer of the nursing home license to a 501 C 3 non profit entity with a local governing Board made up of Provincetown residents and industry experts; the construction of a 72 bed nursing home and outpatient rehabilitation facility, to replace the existing nursing home on Alden Street; and the creation of affordable assisted living units. Under this scenario, taxpayers would not pay for any of the construction costs. Roush and Associates strongly believes in the benefits of the community-based model for not-for-profit health care delivery and the viability of our plan to do this in Provincetown. Their proposal successful incorporates a new nursing home; affordable, dementia and market rate assisted living; plus outpatient rehabilitation services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Rehabilitation services are a great need in this part of the Outer Cape, and citizens need to be aware of the financial synergy that results from the combination of outpatient rehab and assisted living with skilled nursing care all within a non-profit environment. The Town and Roush are committed to the priority of the nursing home, and the importance of this as the flagship of the new initiative. Town meeting approval will be needed to implement the Cape End Manor Care Campus proposal, including zoning amendments, disposition of land with appropriate deed restrictions, and home rule legislation. This entity could assume financial responsibility for the existing Manor as early as July 1, 2002. The current nursing home at 100 Alden Street could become elderly housing after the residents move to the new facility. Please join us for the public forum on this worthwhile initiative.
