Formation of the Provincetown Community Civic Engagement Committee
Revised Application Timeline:
In order to ensure the formation of a Community Civic Engagement Committee (the CEC) with broad community representation that reflects the varied range of interests in the Provincetown community, MOPC is extending the application deadline to April 14, 2014. The level of responses received from the community has been minimal since the announcement was circulated the last week of January, 2014. To date, MOPC and the Town have sought applicants for committee membership by circulating announcements and materials to various locations in Provincetown, posting information on the Town website and asking numerous organizations and individuals to circulate materials and information. MOPC proposes to leave the self-nomination process open for another two months and continue to work with the Town and all previously contacted individuals and organizations to publicize the formation of the Community Civic Engagement Committee.
MOPC asks that Provincetown community leaders, business owners, and individuals support this effort by assisting in circulating materials and information to ensure that everyone is aware of this opportunity to serve on this very important community committee. The updated application can be found on the last two pages below as well as on the Town’s website.
MOPC believes that leaving the self-nomination application process open until April 14th will allow more interested individuals to learn about the formation of this Community Civic Engagement Committee and decide that they would like to apply for membership on the committee. MOPC will finalize the selection process within a month. It is anticipated that the initial organizational meetings will take place before the beginning of the peak season.
Unfortunately, the State did not fund the Town’s Community Innovation Challenge (CIC) Grant application that would have funded several of the community processes recommended by MOPC. The Town and MOPC are looking into other sources for funding and are also awaiting notification as to whether the Cape Cod Foundation will provide funding support for the proposed civic engagement facilitation training for the members of the Community Civic Engagement Committee.
If you are interested in serving on this committee, please fill out the attached Application Questionnaire (link provided below) and return it to Mette Kreutzmann at no later than April 14, 2014.
Hard copies of the Application can be obtained at the Veteran's Memorial Community Center, Provincetown Police Department, Provincetown Public Library, and the Town Clerk's Office.
