Shellfish Permits

Shellfish beds are traditionally open from early November through March each year and shellfishing is only permitted during that period.  Each year the specific beds are identified and the season declared open by the Board of Selectmen, which generally occurs at a Selectmen's meeting in October with an opening date to occur sometime in the first week of November.  A public Notice is placed in the local newspaper and on the Town website.  Shellfish Permits typically are available in mid-October in preparation of the new Shellfish season.  Residents & Non-Resident Property Owners: $15.00.  Non- Residents: $50.00.  Residents and taxpayers 65 and older - free!

Shellfish Area to Open November 1, 2015
On Sunday, November 1, 2015 the shellfish area east of the west end breakwater (CCB4.3) will be open to the public.

The proposed dates are not subject to the results of shellfish or water quality testing due to the fact that CCB4.3 is classified "Approved" by the state.

The days allowed are Sundays and Fridays through the end of March 2016, with a ten-quart limit per week. Licenses, gauges, and a copy of the regulations will be available at the Town Clerk’s office Mid-October. Fees are $15.00 for residents and $50.00 for non-residents. Residents or taxpayers shall be issued a free shellfish permit at age 65 or older.

If Bay Scallops are abundant the Shellfish Constable will post the days and location of their taking and the recreational limit shall be two pecks per week.
