Our department is comprised of 19 sworn officers, assigned to different areas of responsibility and supported by 8 non-sworn personnel. The members of the Provincetown Police Department are committed to excellence in policing.
The Provincetown Police Department is a full-service, public safety organization staffed by talented and community-minded police officers. They are trained, equipped and ready to work together in a team atmosphere handling any type of situation that may manifest itself. We are able to accomplish this task by utilizing a diverse group of employees who are highly motivated, well trained and committed to the highest ideals of the law enforcement profession. Our expressed intent is to use every available opportunity we can to contact citizens, visitors and community leaders in an effort to solicit their assistance in the continuation of quality police service.
The members of the Provincetown Police Department are dedicated to maintaining a high level of public confidence by ensuring that each member displays honesty, integrity, and sound judgment in their contacts with our citizens, always recognizing their duty to protect and serve the members of our community. In addition, they respect the notion that law enforcement can be resolute yet compassionate – that the dignity of people can and should be preserved in the delivery of our services to the greatest extent that circumstances allow. We also acknowledge that policing policies must be conceived in collaboration with the public subject to those policies. We endeavor to live this paradigm of partnership.
The department provides a high-quality of police service by fully utilizing department personnel and all available resources to address community-identified issues and concerns. They receive calls for a whole host of both emergency and non-emergency public services, including the fire department, Lower Cape Ambulance/EMT service and the Animal Control Officer, and dispatch the necessary departments to deal with the request. The emergency 911-call center and department is fully staffed seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.
The members of this department urge you to become involved in your community. No police department can effectively reduce crime concerns in partnership without the cooperation of its residents. Throughout the year our officers conduct many informal outreach strategies, presentations and other community oriented programs.
The Provincetown Police Department is committed to the tenets of community policing and ascribes to Sir Robert Peale’s belief that “the police are the community and the community are the police.” We ask everyone to join us in reducing the incidents of crime or the fear of crime in Provincetown by adopting the credo, “If you see something, say something.”
We are committed to keeping Provincetown a safe, healthy and welcoming community to live, work, and play in.
Come and join us as partners as we work to keep Provincetown safe for everyone.
The Provincetown Police Department welcomes your comments as we strive to better use our web page as just one more way to deliver efficient and effective police services.
