Rose Dorothea Half Scale Model
- Francis "Flyer" Santos constructed the half scale model of the Rose Dorothea for the Provincetown Heritage Museum beginning in 1977.
- The Rose Dorothea half scale model cost $75,000 to construct, which included $17,000 for the sails that were stitched by an old master in New Bedford; 375 pounds of rope used for rigging. To save money, Flyer salvaged lumber from anywhere and anyplace. He used old oak shelving discarded during the renovations of the Library for constructing the hatches and grates on the deck of the model.
- David Ditacchio and Richard Meads worked with Flyer in constructing the Model. Frank James from Gay Head spent two years making the rigging. Read A Provincetown Legend Lives Again by Josephine C. Del Deo - describing the making of the model and of the boat builder Flyer Santos.
