[ARCHIVED] SIGNIFICANT DROUGHT CONDITIONS DECLARED

To Provincetown Water System Customers in Provincetown and Truro

On August 13, 2020, Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Kathleen Theoharides declared a Level 2 – Significant Drought in all seven regions of the Commonwealth, which includes the Cape Cod and Islands region.  At a Level 2 – Significant Drought, as outlined in the Massachusetts Drought Management Plan, conditions are becoming significantly dry and warrant detailed monitoring of drought conditions.

Since June 1st 2020, Provincetown Water System has been under mandatory non-essential outdoor water use restrictions.  Restrictions are in effect until October 1st 2020.  Provincetown Water Department is strongly urging all consumers to conserve water.  Outdoor watering with irrigation systems and sprinklers is prohibited.  Watering with a handheld hose shall be limited to after 5:00 p.m. or before 9:00 a.m. to avoid evaporative losses; New gardens or plantings should be avoided until conditions improve.  Provincetown Water Department appreciates your cooperation.
