The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) will be launching expanded early morning and late-night service to the Town of Provincetown beginning May 5, 2023. This pilot is aimed at providing additional transportation options for Provincetown workers during the town’s expanded shoulder season and throughout the summer and will also provide additional opportunities for residents and visitors to use CCRTA’s service.

After the Select Board, Town administration, and CCRTA leadership met in February, all recognized that additional service was needed to and from Provincetown. Over the last several weeks, CCRTA has worked cooperatively with Provincetown to diligently fill those gaps and develop a new schedule to accommodate Provincetown’s needs.

“We are incredibly grateful to CCRTA for their willingness to make this happen as this additional service will be exceedingly helpful to our workers, our local businesses, and the residents and visitors they serve,” said Town Manager Alex B. Morse. “I want to thank the Select Board for their support as well as Member Leslie Sandberg for her leadership on this initiative. I also want to thank Town Meeting voters for funding a worker transportation pilot program, but with CCRTA being able to meet this need, we are now focused on marketing this new service aggressively to ensure it is successful.”

Beginning May 5, CCRTA will be offering expanded Friday, Saturday, and Sunday service with the first drop off in Provincetown by 5:24 a.m. and last trip out of Provincetown at 1:36 a.m. through May 21.

Beginning May 22, CCRTA will be offering expanded Monday through Sunday (seven days per week) service with the first drop off in Provincetown by 5:24 a.m. and last trip out of Provincetown at 1:36 a.m. each day through June 23.

“CCRTA is proud to offer our commitment for increased transit services provided to the Provincetown area through both extended days of operation and hours of service,” said CCRTA Administrator Tom Cahir. “I’d like to thank the Town administration and representatives from the local business community for their helpful participation and insight throughout this process, as they were all instrumental in solidifying this important Provincetown transit enhancement effort. CCRTA looks forward to working with the Town and stakeholders as we implement and monitor the ridership progress and benefits resulting from this expanded transit service program.”

Similar expanded service will be offered all summer and into October as well. More information will be available on the CCRTA’s website at https://capecodrta.org/.
