The Town of Provincetown is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $1,008,000 grant from the USDA Rural Development program. This grant will assist with the costs of the water main replacement project on Shank Painter Road.
The Shank Painter water main replacement is a critical infrastructure improvement project that will replace the aging water main on Shank Painter Road. The new 12” ductile-iron water main will provide reliable and safe drinking water to the residents and businesses on Shank Painter Rd. from Bradford St. to Route 6 and will ensure that the town's water infrastructure is up-to-date and functioning properly.
The grant from USDA Rural Development will help to offset the costs of the project, which is estimated to cost a total of $2.25 million. The Town of Provincetown is grateful for the support of USDA Rural Development and looks forward to working with the agency to ensure the success of this important project.
"This grant is a significant boost for the water main replacement project on Shank Painter Road," said Town Manager Alex B. Morse. "The Town of Provincetown is committed to ensuring that our infrastructure is safe, reliable, and up-to-date, and we are grateful to USDA Rural Development for their support and assistance in helping make this project more affordable for our community.”
The water main replacement project is expected to begin in late fall 2023. Construction will pause during the 2024 summer season before anticipated completion in fall 2024. The full project schedule will be available on the Town website once finalized.
Once the water main replacement is complete, the Town will be able to move forward with additional roadway improvements on Shank Painter Road that are currently being planned and designed. MassDOT will be conducting an upcoming public hearing in Provincetown sometime in mid-June on the 25% project design. The project is currently scheduled to start construction in 2025 with anticipated completion in 2027.
