Over the next several days, the Town will be focused on cleaning up public property and continuing inspections of structures to determine their safety. We will also continue to be in contact with our partners at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as they work to assess damage statewide and locally from the storm and its impacts.
As residents and businesses continue to assess damage and clean up after this past weekend’s storm, the Town is providing the following information and reminders. for those impacted by storm and/or flood damage. The Town recommends you:
- Check your property immediately or have a caretaker check on it.
- Call your home or business insurance company and report any damage.
- Contact your agent to confirm your coverage limits, deductible amount, and claim procedures.
- Work with them to have an adjuster visit and inspect your property.
- Take photos of damage to share with your adjuster.
- Remove any standing water as soon as possible.
- Please note that the Town cannot assist you with dewatering.
- Consult a plumbing contractor, a landscaping or excavating company, a disaster restoration specialist, or a combination of these.
- If your home insurance company is involved, check to see if they have a specific vendor that they recommend for flood mitigation.
- Apply for a Building Permit for any replacement, removal, or repair of things such as decks, siding, retaining walls, windows, doors, foundations, electrical, plumbing, gas, etc. at https://provincetownma.viewpointcloud.com/categories/1071
- For emergency repairs already performed or in progress due to this weekend’s storm, a permit application must be submitted by the next business day from when you started work.
- Any property with a fuel storage tank in a basement that flooded or outdoor area subject to waves or flooding should be assessed for damage to the tank, connections, and for escaped liquids.
- Call the Fire Department for inspection at 508-487-7023.
- Contact a local disposal company for assistance with removing damaged items and debris from your property.
While the Town is unable to assist with collection or removal of debris from or on private property, for those beginning to clean up, the following types of items are accepted at the Transfer Station at 90 Race Point Road:
- RIGID PLASTIC - All curbside items accepted plus items such as large plastic toys and all plastic lawn furniture. No PVC pipe.
- YARD WASTE - Grass, leaves, small branches accepted.
- SCRAP METAL - Fees may apply.
- MATTRESSES / BOX SPRINGS - Fees apply.
- FLUORESCENT, CFL, + LED LIGHT BULBS - Do not throw in the trash. Return to hardware store or Transfer Station.
- MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS - Computers, TVs, tires, fishing gear, rechargeable and lithium batteries, mercury items, smoke alarms, and propane tanks. Fees may apply.
- CARDBOARD – Dry, corrugated and flattened. No waxed cardboard, no string, rope or wire. Tape is okay.
The Transfer Station is currently operating on its winter schedule, which is five days a week, Tuesday-Saturday, from 7am to 2pm. Stickers for the Transfer Station are $25 annually for residents and property owners and may be obtained at the Transfer Station. Proof of residency or ownership must be provided (ex: valid license, current bill, etc.)
