The Town of Provincetown is embarking on a project to plan, design and construct roadway improvements along Shank Painter Road and Route 6 to improve vehicular access and pedestrian and bicycle accommodations. The proposed project is anticipated to include improvements to traffic circulation and safety, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities along Shank Painter Road from the intersection of Bradford Street to the intersection of Route 6 for an approximate length of 2,900 feet. It is also being discussed to include a 1.1 mile segment of Route 6 to link pedestrian and bicycle accommodations from Shank Painter Road to Herring Cove Beach and the National Seashore.
The Town will be advocating that this project be placed on the State's FY2023 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) agenda. The Barnstable County Metropolitan Planning Organization votes to endorse projects from their county to be placed on the State's TIP program. The 5 year prior to the anticipated FY2023 construction schedule will be used for planning purposes such as, public outreach, design and regulatory approvals.
